Shrimp Cocktail

Appropriate for 8 servings


For The Shrimps

  • 16 shrimps, large
  • 1 bay leaf
  • 2 tablespoons salt
  • 1 lemon, cut in half
  • 1 onion, cut in four pieces
  • 5 black peppercorns

For The Sauce

  • 200gr ketchup
  • 2 tablespoons lemon juice, fresh
  • 1/4 teaspoon hot pepper sauce
  • 2 & 1/2 tablespoons prepared horseradish 
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt


For The Shrimps

  1. Take a large pot and fill it with water, about 3/4 of the pot.
  2. Squeeze the lemon halves, so that the juice goes directly into the pot and then throw the lemons in the pot as well.
  3. Add the peppercorns, onion pieces and bay leaf into the pot.
  4. Place the pot over high heat, bring to boil and then lower to medium heat.
  5. Simmer for 5 minutes and add the shrimps.
  6. Cook for about 3 minutes, until they become opaque in the center.
  7. Drain the shrimps of the water, place them into cold iced water and let them cool off.
  8. Remove them from the water and peel them.

For The Sauce

  1. Combine all the ingredients in a bowl.
  2. Whisk them for a bit until they become a nice even sauce.

Now, Let’s Serve…

Place the shrimps into a large serving bowl full of ice and the sauce in a small serving bowl! There!
